MGDuff Blog: MGDUFF SeriesOne Shaft Seal Adaptor
MGDUFF’s recommended method for basic anode bonding to the sterngear is via the gearbox or engine casing, with a bridged flexible coupling to ensure electrical continuity. Providing the optimum stern gear protection requires the addition of MGDUFF Electro Eliminator brushes. Running directly on the propeller shaft the brushes put the anode in constant low resistance contact with the shaft and propeller.
The existing EE1 and EE2 models are designed for use on traditional bronze ‘stuffing box’ style stern tubes, however recent development in shaft seal designs required a new approach to the brush attachment. Keeping pace with modern sterngear, MGDuff have developed an adaptor which enables use of their “electro eliminator” shaft brushes with the popular Tides Marine ‘SeriesOne’ self aligning shaft seal.
The lightweight, injection moulded adaptor fits snugly around the body of the seal, ensuring permanent continuity between the rotating shaft and the anode. A simple retro-fit for boat owners, the unit is suitable for all shaft sizes in the ‘SeriesOne’ range.
